Game plan

Introduction

In order to have a successful project we need to follow some simple steps that are going to help us of stay on track given the limited time we have.

In this world, where we are surrounded by digital information, storytelling is a key element for a successful piece. Storytelling helps you reach your audience clearly and understand what are the key elements you need in order to create your piece.

This piece will be designed for the public, so we need to make sure the audience understands what we are trying to say. We need to create a final product that looks polished and compelling. Remember: Keep It Simple!

The group needs to get together, brainstorm, develop their concept, storyboard, plan and create.

You need to get together and make sure everybody in the group knows what are the best skills you have, so every person gives their best.

Example: who is good at editing, writing, special effects, performance, organizing, communication, etc. Every single one of you needs to work in harmony to create a successful piece.

Key points to a good start:

– Contact information

– Work in Google documents

– Contribute to the Blog

– Establish roles (Wrangler, writer, editor, sound, lighting, etc.)

About Me

My name is Lina Maria Giraldo and I’m an interactive media artist and interaction designer. I’m passionate about storytelling, data visualization and doing research on media content. Social and environmental issues inspire me as well as nature. I have fun playing with interactivity in screens both small and large.  Currently I’m learning every day from my 4-month-old daughter.

I did my undergraduate in Mass College of Art where I majored in SIM. I did my master at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York University, where I majored in Interactive Telecommunications with in an emphasis in storytelling.

In the last couple of years I was one of the interaction designers, content developer and producer of the JFK50.org website, which obtained two gold awards in education outreach in both the W3 and AAM Awards. I‘ve been selected twice to screen at the Marquee in the Convention Center, where Jared Bowen of WGBH interviewed me on my piece Rain. I just finished installing a solo show at the Hollister Gallery at Babson College.

Concept Development

1. Ask questions that are going to help you tell a story.

What do you want to tell the audience?

What is the best media to express your idea?

Who are your spectators?

What is your goal?

2.Do research, put it together and note down your thoughts.

3.WRITE your conclusions; start sketching your story with words, make a list of keywords.

4. Know your partners’ skills and make a list of the hardware and software you are going to need

Mood Board- Inspiration Boards  

This is a collage of all your inspirations, influences, and dreams. It could be artists, musicians, performances, web artists, concepts, talks, colors, etc.

Storyboard

In form of illustrations or images displaying a sequence with the objective of previewing your project

They are a great tool to develop your ideas and not get caught in the technical challenges.

They are usually drawn by pencil but you can do it with photos, collages or sounds, etc.

Start timing and making a list of your technical needs

Key points:

Write your final story

Lay down your story step by step

Index cards are great to work in group, because you can arrange them and move the story around
