Last Steps

Dear Amazing Class,

How are you?I hope you got some rest after this hard semester. So far we have 127 people RSVP. This is great! Please invite your friends and spread the word, so we can fill the planetarium twice. Your work deserves to be seen.

Thank you video editors for uploading your files on time. The next step is to upload the sound no later than Friday.

Below are some of last steps that I would like to discuss.

– First  Documentation:

The last class I hand picked some of you to do the video documentation for all the screening because we didn’t have too many volunteers… I feel there was not much enthusiasm from the class. Documentation of your wok is very important, but  at the end it’s for you.  I think every group should be responsible for their part, this way they are also responsible for the own editing.

What do you think? Any takers?

– Second plan ahead for next week:

* Tuesday 28th for dress rehearsal we should arrive at the usual time 4:15

4:15 Kerri and Megan should be setting up the lights

4:40 we are starting our screening with no interruptions

6:00 second run

6:40 Kerri and Megan uninstall the lights

NOTE:   If we have volunteers for the documentation  let me know  ASAP so I can connect you with Eric to reserve the cameras.

* Wednesday 29th

4:15 Kerri and Megan should be setting up the lights

5:00 The people helping with the production Seating, MC, Programs, Still Photography  should arrive. Nicole D, Kelly, Nicole B and Esther

5:30 The rest of the class  should arrive

5:45 seating

6:00 1st show start

6:45 Seating

7:00 2nd Show Start

7:40 Kerri and Megan uninstall the lights

Last, I will be organizing the RSVP early next week. Let me know if you need to add names of people you know are coming but didn’t have the chance to RSVP.

Please let me know if I’m missing something

Best

Lina

Comments and Important date

Dear All,

Congratulations, you achieved wonderful videos in a short period of time. Now is the time to finish. Karina, Jason and I are making the final master copy for May 29th. This means I need the uploaded files .mov and .wav for MAY 17th.  No exceptions!!  If there are no new files, I will use the ones you presented on May 8th. Remember to make sure you are working on 30fps and make sure your sound and video match correctly, here is a link to Jason’s entry with the details:

Notes for each group

Creative Process:

You story and transitions  were very strong. I love the change of pace from a very colorful  and fast environment to a one more darker and deeper.  Since the beginning you were trying to explain what a spark of idea means in our creative process and you made it clear in your visuals. From a very slow start because of your technical challenges, you were able to make a vey successful piece!! Your sound editing and aesthetics were a good combination.

Below are a couple of small suggestions:

Check your sound sync.

The last frame has a slight jump. make sure it ends smoothly.

Perception:

Great Job! You did a wonderful work from the beginning. Your mood board and story board were consistent and really helped you to shape a powerful final piece. Your imagery really helps to understand your story from what we perceive as how we process. I really enjoyed the sound!

You dynamic group was fantastic. Kelsey did an outstanding job making sure everybody was on track!!!!

Unexplored Minds:

You experimentation with material created a a real sense of unexplored and darkness which makes it interesting for the audience. The amount of layers in color in your editing is really good. Chip, thank you for the credits they were wonderful!! You should use the bold version of the font.

The biggest problem with the piece is that there no story – no beginning to end. Its and atmospheric piece within a storytelling format.

The lack of communication between the group members show in the results. Your group has so much potential and skills but these are getting lost in the process.

You need to solve a few elemental issues before next week. One of those is the differences between the sound and the lights with the video. The video that was shown the second time has compression and settings issues. The two black bars were very distracting on the screening so they need to be reviewed and exported correctly. If you send me your compression settings, I’d be more than glad to help.

The sounds has a lot of potential to enhance the video. They are both great but they are working separately.  Make sure to check your sound levels, some parts are extremely loud (remember we have kids coming to event).

The light installation is a great idea and I would love to see it woking properly, so here are the ground rules: Kerri and Megan, you need to rehearse it with your video at Mass Art. When we are the planetarium on the 28th, we are going two have two runs. You should set everything in 20 min staring a 4:15. At 4:40 we are starting our screening and there will be not interruptions.  The second run will be at 6:00pm . If by the second run we have any glitches or mistakes, we won’t go with the light installation.

Unexplored Minds Important information May 8th

Dear Unexplored Minds,

Congratulations on your production so far! You should be very proud of what you have done in the short time we’ve had. Now just make sure you finish what you started, avoid starting new content and polish what you have in order to wrap up. We have noticed that sound and video are not communicating in the last two presentation at the planetarium. The sound hasn’t matched correctly. You need to improve your communication within your group. Our time is limited and we only have two more presentations before the event. The final class is May 8th and by then you need to have 99% completed. You have presented amazing visuals, so please don’t forget the importance of sound to enhance them.

You need to have your video and sound files separately so we don’t have any issues of aspect ratio and compression. The sound should be .wav and the video.mov

For this reason we need the two files in dropbox by Monday. This way he has enough time to put them together. If you have any problems please feel free to contact me.

We need to make sure everybody is credited correctly. Please take a look at the list and let me know if we are missing anything. For example who in your group did all the shooting?

Creative Process Important information May 8th

Dear Creative Process,

Congratulation on your process! Everything is looking great! You have created your own content in very little time. Right now is time to polish what you already have and finalize.

We had a great meeting with Nicole Barron. I’m sure the process is going to be a little bit easier. Also she mentioned that Nicole Dube was giving her pieces of the sound and NB was putting them together at the end.  Unfortunately this process takes too much time for  Nicole B and doesn’t allow her to concentrate on the important details. In the ideal world, Nicole D you should create a sound file that matches the video from the beginning to the end.

For the final class you should upload video and sound files separately so we don’t have any issues of aspect ratio and compression. The sound should be .wav and the video.mov

Perception Important information May 8th

Dear Perception,

Congratulation on your work! You have achieved a tremendous amount of work all the way from video to sound in a short period of time. You are very close to achieving what  you visualized in the beginning on your storyboard.

The next step is to polish what you already started for the final class.

For the final class you should upload a video and sound file separately so we don’t have any issues of aspect ratio and compression. The sound should be .wav and the video.mov

The Title! Everybody talk about it!

During the PR Meeting we came up with two options for the title, “Sentient Flow”  and “Sentient”.

Since it was consensus that most people do not know want sentient means, I will give you the definition below, but also propose the idea to have an ink blot test (Rorschach test), which would form an abstracted brian as the background image for the post card/pamflet to further clarify.

sen·tient

[sen-shuhnt] adjective

1.having the power of perception by the senses; conscious.

2.characterized by sensation and consciousness.
noun

3.a person or thing that is sentient.
4.Archaic. the conscious mind.
Origin:
1595–1605;  < Latin sentient-  (stem of sentiēns,  present participle ofsentīre  to feel), equivalent to senti-  verb stem + -ent-

Production and PR

This wednesday is our second visit to the planetarium.

After wednesday, we have three more working visits there:

March 13
March 20
April 24

The final test run:

May 8th

The final

May 29th

After the class on wednesday, depending on where you are on the production, I will email each group their respective timeline.

Below are critical points that you need to incorporate (I did mention some before).

– Narrative that works in 14 min

– Shot list

– Props for your performance

– Start timing your scenes, think about cues for your performance. When your  are done with your visuals start laying down your sound.

– Start creating a timeline for production. As I said before, we only have 3 more visits!!  Include shooting , Video editing, sound Editing, Composite, Animations and Rendering time

Please, if you have any question don’t hesitate to contact me.
